GBM Mobile Version 3 - Product Announcement

 

 

 

GBM Mobile V3.10 has successfully completed production testing and is available for customer installation from March 31st 2005. This is a major upgrade. A summary of new features is provided below. More detail is available in the release notes.

 

This upgrade will be forwarded automatically to maintenance customers. Other customers should contact Exa-Min or their local GBM Mobile reseller to discuss upgrade options. 

 

Updated Technology

·       GBM Mobile V3.10 is built on the new MapX Mobile V5.05 release by MapInfo which is optimised for the latest generation of PDA equipment.

-          V3.10 operates with Microsoft Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 or the Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition. It requires a PDA with a  StrongARM compatible processor, such as one of the Intel Xscale chips.

-          ECW format compressed raster images are now supported along with standard raster image formats.

 

New Features                                        

·       New Operator Profiles and the new Load Data Wizard simplify the user experience and reduce operator training needs.

-          Operator profiles include the geoset, equivalent data paths on the PDA for each of the MapInfo tables in the geoset and the Custom Form definitions required for each user group.

-          The Load Data Wizard streamlines loading of geosets, data files and Custom Forms onto mobile devices. It is no longer necessary to copy MapInfo tables into the same folder or edit path names in the PDA geoset. 

·         The wizard validates the PC geoset, automatically prepares a new PDA geoset that will operate with files loaded into locations defined in the Operator Profile and then loads the new geoset and data files onto the PDA in the one operation. The profile may instruct that working data is loaded into PDA main memory and reference data onto storage cards.

·         The wizard automatically checks for missing or out-of-date reference data and Custom Forms and will load updates if necessary. Status messages and on-screen trouble assistance is provided. Reference data is only reloaded if necessary.

·       Custom forms now support Mandatory Fields.

-          Each field in a form can now be checked as Mandatory in addition to visible, editable and searchable. Mandatory fields are displayed in red on the PDA and user cannot save data until all mandatory fields are filled out.

·       GPS Coordinates display is now available on the status bar and a new GPS logging option has been added.

·       The Mobile Manager user interfaces have been upgraded.

-          Functions including the new Load Data and Profile Editor wizards are now arranged in four tabs to reflect user roles. Mobile Manager dialogues are now re-sizable

·       Animated tutorials, new help file, documentation and an expanded demonstration datasets are included.

 

New Licensing

·       GBM Mobile Version 3 is available as a general release that includes all the capabilities of the V2.51 Extended Edition plus the new features. The Standard Edition has been discontinued.
